Washington (WA)

26 July 2018

I stayed in Mount Vernon WA overnight. Here is another bridge near Edgewater Park over the Skagit River.

Again my timing is out and I will miss the Burlington Quiddichweekend on 28 July!! A Harry Potter celebration.

The countryside changed 4 times in 5 hours from Mount Vernon to Kennewick WA. From beautiful mountain fir forests.

To Snoqualmie Pass, the Wanapum Lake and the Vantage Bridge over the Columbia River.

Semiarid bluffs

Wheat fields and then this spectacular part of the world. Palouse Falls.

There were warnings to not get close to the edge as 4 people died here recently.

I was vigilant after seeing this sign.

Goodbye Canada

25 July 2018

It was difficult to leave Cousin Josie and her husband Jimmy (Ignacio). They live in such a serene area with cougars and bears in the backyard and these cute humming birds on their front porch.

I drove to Victoria British Columbia (BC) to take the ferry across to Port Angeles in Washington State but missed it. I would have liked to stay in Victoria a few days as it looked beautiful but I am now on a tight schedule to get to Colorado, my last State.

Next ferry was from Sidney BC and I had 2 hours to drive 30 minutes distance. Again I would have liked to look around Sidney as it is also a beautiful place.

The ferry is a 2.5 hour trip and I was hoping to see whales but not this trip. But got this beautiful sunset.

Arrived in Anacortes Washington at 9:00pm. These homes have a lovely view.

Happy Fourth of July 2018 USA!!!

This is what I woke to today in Puyallup. What a stunning view in the backyard of where I am staying.

I spent Independence Day afternoon in a place I found on my Meetup app. Tom and Peggy have a property with a pool in Puyallup Washington. Fascinating that they advertise their address on the Meetup App for the whole world to see. I decided to go because it was only 8 minutes from where I was staying although driving here it looked like it was in the middle of the bush.

Lovely people. Thank you for your kind hospitality everyone.

Throughout the day the sound of fireworks being let off in homes and streets everywhere brought back fun memories of our childhood cracker nights. Wish they would bring them back in Australia.

When night fell the show started. It is so exciting. I don’t know where to look. There are fireworks at the front of the house, at the back of the house, upstairs you can see fireworks out on the horizon and I am as excited as Sydney NYE. Perhaps more excited because it is just people and their neighbours putting on this great show. 2 hours so far and it isn’t easing up. Not bad considering it is illegal to discharge fireworks in many of these housing areas. What a fun community coming together entertaining everyone!!

Puyallup Washington

3 July 2018

I met Kristen in the bathroom (restroom) of the Longhorn Saloon in Fort Worth Texas in March.

We hit it off and she invited me to her home in Washington. I told her that she has to be careful inviting me as I will turn up. True to her word she has been contacting me checking when I would arrive and today she welcomed me into her home.

On the way to Kristen’s there were several homes decked out for 4 July celebrations tomorrow.

This sculpture caught my attention “hearts are bigger in Puyallup”.

At Kristen’s we had a waterfight with her son Colby and his friends as part of her birthday celebration. Waterfight

Then Kristen’s fiance Kevin, started sliding down the staircase on an airmattress. This is the outcome when Kristen came down with Colby. Pay close attention to the hole she put in the wall with her right foot. However, she may have broken a bone or two of her left foot which did not go through the wall but rather took all the impact. The dangers of having fun. Stair slide

I will leave today with this question. What is it with toilet stalls/cubicles in the USA. They are all built with these big gaps! I don’t understand why.
