I stayed in an Airbnb overnight in San Diego as I had planned a tour to Tijuana for today.
Unfortunately I did not go to Tijuana. I had booked a walking tour against the advice of most of the people I know. However, I told everyone I have travelled Colombia and Panama solo and lived in Brasil. How bad can Tijuana be?
The tour guide advised where I could park the car at the USA/Mexico border. I was not convinced my hire car would be safe anywhere near the border which made me think, I should be concerned about my safety.
I divided up my money and put one of my debit/credit cards in a separate money purse together with $USD40. I thought that if I was approached to hand over money, I could hand over the one purse and ask if I could keep the card, hoping that the person may think that was all I had on me. I then decided to go with my gut feeling and not tempt fate and cancelled the tour to Tijuana.
I am adventurous but know it is important to pay attention to these gut feelings. The border did not feel right in any way. The people were the saddest and poorest I have seen in a while and these seemed to be the traders so what would I see beyond the border, and I have witnessed some of the worst poverty when I lived in Brasil.
I drove back to my haven in Rancho Santa Margarita and went on a second Tinder date. Yes, a Tinder date. It is funny how everyone has a specific thought about this dating app. I have used it as well as POF each time I have travelled to the USA. My post “will you show me around your town” has allowed me to meet the locals who are proud to show off their town.
I went to the local sports bar “Daleys” and watched a couple of ice hockey and basketball games while I was receiving updates on my NRL game Tigers v Roosters. It was a great day that my team has won Round 1.

I was a little scared for you while reading your blog Edi. I’m glad you trusted your gut feeling. So close but not meant to be this time
